Partner Spotlight: Social Sitters
Hi, I’m Destiny Smith-Milner, owner and co-founder of Social Sitters LLC, an event child care company based in Columbus that serves families across Ohio. In 2018, after spending over 10 years in a variety of child care roles, my co-founders and I came together with a shared vision to bridge the gap for parents who want to fully enjoy life’s special moments without worrying about who’s caring for their little ones. That vision soon became the spark that grew into Social Sitters.
Social Sitters specializes in providing on-site child care for events such as weddings, conferences, corporate functions, and religious or nonprofit gatherings. Our team transforms ordinary spaces into warm, engaging play areas filled with small play equipment, crafts, games, and activities that help kids feel right at home. While fun is always at the heart of what we do, our top priority is making sure every child feels safe and included, and every parent has peace of mind knowing their child is cared for just a room away.
We’ve added a playful touch to our services with nostalgic package names like “Saved by the Sitters,” “The Parent Trap,” and “Cheaper by the Dozen.” From the booking process to clean up, we offer a full-service experience that allows parents to be fully present for their event while feeling confident that their children are in trusted hands.
Who We Serve
We proudly serve families, event planners, and organizations that want to make their events stress-free. Our sitters are vetted and background-checked professionals, many of whom are teachers, nannies, and child care providers with years of experience. We care for children as young as 6 weeks up to around 12 years old and are proud to welcome children of all abilities. Whether that means creating calm, sensory-friendly play options or giving breastfeeding parents the flexibility to check in for feedings, we strive to make every setup feel supportive and inclusive.
Child care is one of those services that often goes unnoticed until it’s needed, but once families experience it, they can’t imagine an event without it. For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to see parents’ shoulders drop as they chat with a sitter at drop-off. When they realize their kids are not only safe and cared for by professionals who love what they do but are also genuinely having fun and sometimes don’t want to leave, that’s when we know we’ve done something special.
A Message to Fellow Nannies and Caregivers
Before starting Social Sitters, I spent many years working closely with families and children, gaining firsthand experience in what quality child care truly means. Those experiences continue to shape the way I lead and support others in this industry. My biggest piece of advice for anyone in this work is to lead with empathy and genuine consideration. Keep learning, build relationships within the child care community, and never underestimate the impact of your presence. Our work may not always make headlines, but it shapes families’ lives in ways that truly matter.
One of my favorite parts of being behind Social Sitters is seeing how much it also supports our team. We would not be who we are without the incredible sitters who show up ready to connect, create, and care. For many of them, this is not just flexible side work; it is a space to build real community. We take pride in bringing together caregivers from across Central Ohio who share ideas, encourage one another, and often find their next opportunities through networking and our direct referrals to agencies. Watching our team members grow in their own careers is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
